The Benefits of Implementing a Cascade Solution in Water Treatment Plants
Implementing smarter cooling system management in steel works can significantly reduce the size of water treatment plants (CapEx) and lower the annual water treatment costs (OpEx). This approach minimizes the volume of circulating water and supports the journey toward a more efficient process. The Cascade configuration runs cooling circuits in series rather than parallel. Water is first supplied to the most demanding plant unit with cooler and cleaner water, then passing to the second user, with no intermediate treatment. This method has proven to be most profitable when implemented in hot strip mills, as recently experienced in South Africa.
