Collision Detection and No-Fly Zones: Methods of Interfacing With AC and 250-VDC Overhead Mill Cranes
In steel production and processing, overhead cranes may commonly be used with other cranes on the same runway. The cranes will also be used around equipment and in plant structures. Operators must be careful not to collide with the other crane or structures and equipment nearby. Such collisions can present safety risks and result in costly damage and downtime. This presentation is an overview about common techniques available for detecting collisions, but with significant discussion on methods of interfacing such systems with AC contactor, VFD cranes and 250 VDC mill cranes.
