Hydrogen Burner in EAF: Results From the Development Plan
To speed up the decarbonization of the steelmaking process and granting a sustainable production, SMS as member of the funded project DevH2forEAF designed and tested its own multifuel burner for electric arc furnaces, capable of using hydrogen in the range 0 to 100%. Starting from a computational fluid dynamics simulation, testing a small prototype burner first and then a 3 MW burner in a combustion chamber station, the next step is the installation in a real furnace. This paper presents the development, the challenges and the results obtained so far in various testing and operating conditions.
