Use of Nb in Seamless Steel Pipe for Structural Applications
Niobium microalloyed steel has been traditionally used to produce structural steels in different shapes, and for many applications. The versatility of this element in terms of the mechanisms on which it contributes to final properties has been driving the alloy and process design. In seamless pipe processing, however, Nb has been facing additional constraints in the key thermomechanical processing parameters that governs its precipitation. In the last two decades, new rolling technologies were successfully introduced, being now the first choice for new plants. This paper discusses the opportunities for Nb uses for steels produced in these new technologies.
