Mechanical Properties of Direct Reduced Iron Reduced Under a Simulated Shaft
Most physical characterization and measurements of DRI pellets are performed on DRI pellets reduced under standard ISO 11258 reducibility tests where the temperature and gas composition are constant. The actual reduction condition in the MIDREX® Shaft Furnace varies along the height of the reactor and the oxide pellets or DRI pellets are exposed to varying gas composition and temperature. Midrex and Kobe Steel have developed a new test method to reduce iron oxide pellets under simulated MIDREX Shaft Furnace conditions. The mechanical properties of DRI pellets obtained by the new method are compared with those obtained by the conventional tests.
