Improved EAF Tapping Thanks to Robotics and Vision Systems
This paper presents the development of an industrial robot designed for the maintenance and automatic opening of eccentric bottom tapping and spout canals in electric arc furnaces, thanks to a multitool system and automatic oxygen lance ignition via induction heater. The robot enhances efficiency and safety by automating these critical tasks, traditionally performed manually under hazardous conditions. Additionally, it has novel systems for tapping operations, which employs advanced vision technology to detect material during the tapping process. This system enables real-time monitoring and timely interruption of tapping when slag is detected, thereby improving the quality of the tapped metal.
