Major Revamp of a Reheating Furnace for Increased Capacity
The steel industry is highly demanding and requires steelmakers to constantly innovate to remain competitive. One way to remain competitive is through revamping or modernization projects, which allow for upgraded key process components without completely replacing equipment. For reheating technology, furnaces require upgrades to increase efficiency and decrease consumption. Fives' advanced reheating technology was recently applied to a major steelmaker to expand its furnace capacity for increased production and lower operational costs. This paper will examine the implementation of the modernization project along with the benefits that were achieved with the new pusher furnace and first-generation AdvanTek® wide-flame burners.
