Maintenance Digitalization With Robotic System for Ladle Slidegate Servicing

This paper presents a robotic workstation developed and installed in an Italian steel company's shop, marking one of the first collaborative environments where a robot aids technical personnel in complex maintenance tasks. The robotic cell supports the inspection, cleaning and replacement of refractory components in the "sliding gate," which allows liquid steel to flow from the ladle to the tundish in continuous casting. It includes a vision system for various operations and a human machine interface to facilitate interaction between the robot and operators, enhancing the overall process quality.
