Advancing Briquetting Technology: From Binder-Based to Binderless Solutions in Steel Production for a Circular Economy
As regulations on industrial waste disposal tighten, industries, particularly in steel, are adopting briquetting technology for cost-effective waste management. This process not only reduces waste but also converts steel sludge and byproducts into valuable materials for production. The paper details briquetting methods for basic oxygen, AOD-L, and electric furnaces, including binder-based processes for BOF sludge and mill scale, and DRI recovery for electric furnaces. It concludes with a case study on a novel binderless briquetting process for recycling steel mill waste via BOF or AOD-L, offering insights into the required plant layout, technology and equipment.
