Innovative Descaling Solutions for Steel Plants: The Promise of Submerged Flight Conveyor Technology
Steel plants face descaling challenges due to the inefficiency and large footprint of existing scale pits. UCC Environmental (UCC) has developed submerged flight conveyor (SFC) technology to address these issues. Proven successful in dewatering bottom ash in over 100 installations worldwide, this technology shows promise for steel mill scale materials. UCC validated this by characterizing scale sampled from a steel plant in the central U.S., finding significant similarities between steel mill scale and bottom ash. SFC technology offers benefits like continuous automated operation, reduced footprint, cost savings and improved dewatering efficiency.
