Design, Construction and Start-Up of No. 3 Continuous Galvanizing Line at SDI Columbus in 2020

The No. 3 Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL3) produced its first prime coil 18 months and 20 days after signing the original equipment manufacturer contract. During construction, installation and commissioning, the project team had to contend with the COVID-19 pandemic before vaccines were available. The project used a unique approach to project development and implementation with the dynamism of Steel Dynamics Inc.'s mini-mill culture. Zero OSHA-recordable injuries or COVID-19 infections occurred during the project. CGL3 has exceeded the design capacity by 20% and achieved record sales of value-added, profitable products.
