Data-Driven Ladle Reliability Monitoring
Ladles are critical to steelmaking. The industry relies on metrics such as contact time, heat count, hot spot detection, laser thickness checks and visual assessments to manage refractory campaign. Yet relying on these alone can falsely signal ladle lining reliability. For instance, a ladle with 4-inch-thick slag line, as measured by laser, is dependable unless the ladle experienced thermal shock in prior heats, as determined by the process parameters. This presentation will discuss merging critical process, laser and thermal camera data to better forecast ladle health. This enables industry to reliably extend campaign and reduce refractory costs.
